The information on this website is based on research by Barbara Johnstone, Professor of Linguistics and Rhetoric at Carnegie Mellon University, and Scott F. Kiesling, Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh. Johnstone and Kiesling are sociolinguists who are studying the speech of the Pittsburgh area. The research was funded in part by the U.S. National Science Foundation Collaborative Research Award nos. BCS0417684 and BCS-0417657.

The interviews recorded for the basis of this project were donated to the Archives Service Center
at the University of Pittsburgh. An online finding aid more fully describes the collection,
